I thought that it was about time that I put up a few bonfire pictures- given that I was at the best celebrations in the world it is selfish of me to be keeping them to myself! I spent the night with my friend Alice, mostly inside her kitchen, listening to the roar of the crowds and eating flapjacks. later, we ventured out and climbed up one of Lewes's many steep hills where we got the best view of all of the society's bonfire's and displays. Sitting up there with hundreds of other awe inspired spectators as streams of light whooshed over our heads,I could only think that this must be the best feeling on earth. The energy that takes over the normally quiet town every 5th of November is amazing- although I always think that Lewes does have a sort of offbeat charm anyway. I love it there and always will.

Plus Mr Weasly who lives in Lewes gave me and Al a kiss on the cheek, although he was rather drunk.  And we chatted to a hungover Alisha from Misfits the next morning. Whoever said small towns were boring was wrong!

Hey dudes. This is a photo which I took the other day as part of my art project for college, 'The Body'. We've just started branching off into our own ideas under this umbrella- I'm looking at shadows & the body as I was inspired by Sam Taylor-Wood's totally rad photographs and decided to have a go at photographing something similar as a starting point. I think they turned out pretty well as I took them under studio lights which made it a lot easier to get the effect I wanted. The idea of shadows/mirroring has always fascinated me, which I trace from reading Peter Pan and being utterly transfixed at the idea of Peter's shadow having a life of its own and having to be stitched back onto his body when it escaped. So, as well as the aesthetic side I also want to look at the mentality and fantasy aspect which we associate with shadows. My incredibly helpful teacher managed to hit the nail on the head when she suggested I look at Kara Walker and her silhouette art which is clever and a bit creepy!
Expect to see more of the same- I'm going to make a linocut based on this photograph which I shall post photographs of

Busy Bee

I've been really busy the last week or so trying desperately to catch up with my Photography and Art work in time for my deadlines! I managed to hand in my books with an almost-completed set of work- although I was missing a few bits I had enough not to incur the wrath of my teachers. Photography has, surprisingly, been a bit of a minefield. The topic is 'Metropolis' so we have to go around and photograph the city, panoramas and things like that. My teacher recommended I go to Canary Wharf and take some shots there, so I headed out at dawn to catch the rising sun. I got some gorgeous pictures, but at one point I was photographing a building (from the other side of the street) when a security guard came bowling out, ordering me to stop and swearing when I challenged his authority. It wasn't worth it so I stashed my camera away and moved on, noticing that from the courtyard next to this building there was a really nice view which I stopped to photograph. This time, I was interrupted by a couple of police officers who again asked me to stop photographing the building, giving me a disbelieving look when I told them I was actually shooting in the opposite direction. I was infuriated- not because I had missed a particularly good opportunity but because I was sure I was completely within my rights to take pictures of whatever I wanted as long as I wasn't on private property. I did a bit of research when I got home and found out that other photographers had been challenged, especially around Canary Wharf, finding an article on the Guardian website that detailed an encounter almost identical to mine.  I know that it's not exactly the worst thing that has happened to anyone ever, but it is an attempt to restrict given rights- and don't take that from me, I actually checked out the law surrounding photography on the Met website. So, straight from the horses mouth.

I'm going to go back, take photos and when I'm told off this time I'm going to spout my newly learned information and see what they say to that. Rant over.

On a more cheerful note, I have a ton of photos to post so do stay tuned.

Almost a pity that this is in B&W as her scarf was a gorgeous mustardy yellow that stood out gorgeously against the sea of suits waiting for the tube.

Silk scarves in a shop off Brick Lane. I adore this shop, although I can't remember the name of it! I have spent hours browsing through the piles of fabric and leather gloves, and on this visit bought some lovely thick cotton from which i'll be fashioning a peter pan collar using Wayward Daughter's Tutorial .

Taken yesterday whilst wandering around the park. Autumn leaves are always gorgeous, but I think this one popped beautifully against the ashy grey tree.
